Olianas

Sardinia.

It was the year 2000 when Stefano Casadei and Artemio Olianas decided to transform the Olianas family estate into a winemaking business. Over time Olianas also became the first DCasadei business to become completely BioIntegrale.

At Olianas, BioIntegral means planting deep into the earth, using horses rather than wheeled or caterpillar track farm machinery. It means banning the use of herbicides and chemical fertilisers or similar products for the phytosanitary protection of the plants. And it means producing compost and bonemeal, it means always and only harvesting by hand, selecting the grapes straight from the vine. It means making wine in amphorae.

The estate, which covers 23 hectares, has 19 hectares of vineyards and 4 hectares dedicated to the cultivation of fruit trees and growing forage to feed the estate’s permanent residents – Vegas and Dinette – the two Comtois horses brought especially from France to work in the fields.
